GovernERP Project - About Us

Our Story

John Harding -- Our Founder

John came up with the idea to do a feature complete cost accounting system as an Open Source project in 2001 after first being exposed to the Open Source model. John had been in business implementing highly integrated, multi-module cost accounting systems since Dec 1982. This included doing initial analysis, specifications, working with developers on customizations, training management and end-users.

John's mid-life crisis was realizing that being in business for himself for 14 years was not really where he wanted to be and after working with a dot-bomb company in 2000 and 2001, he decided to finish his BS in Management, do an MBA and finally go to work in the family business -- the State of California. In going to work for the State, John reconnected to his childhood best friend Tom McGee, also a State of California employee. They found out about their mutual interest in Open Source and decided to refocus John's idea towards a governmental accounting/ERP system.

John provides the primary domain expertise in management accounting for the GovernERP Project. John also does most of the database design work and entity relationship diagrams, ERDs. He's having fun doing this.

Tom McGee -- Our Co-Founder

Tom has been doing software development for the State of California for many years. Most of his work has been in the Java arena. He has explored many Open Source technologies related to Java development and both codes and does research into how best to implement the project's infrastructure. He's having a blast, too.

Disclaimer

Though both of us and our first contributor are State of California employees, we work at this in our free time. Further, it is important to note that the State of California has nothing to do with this project, though hope springs eternal. ;-)
