Welcome to the GovernERP Project

GovernERP Project Roadmap

Are We There Yet?

The short answer is no, but we have a plan!

Our intention is to tackle this series of tasks with the most risky and/or unique to public sector users, first. Ultimately the following list will change to suit the talents and interests of future contributors, but as it stands today (Jan 2010), we are in the midst of major point #2, below:

  1. Infrastructure
    1. Inter-nodal communications -- JMS/ActiveMQ
    2. RESTful browser to application communications
    3. Data access layer
    4. Social networking/workflow topology
  2. Core accounting and budgeting functionality
    1. Database design of core transaction & budgeting functionality
      1. ERD as of Jan 10, 2010
    2. Prototyping transaction processing within nodes and between
    3. Develop budgeting workflows and features
  3. Procurement functionality
    1. Accounts payable, vendor management functionality
    2. Stores/inventory receipts & usage functionality
    3. Requisition & purchase order processing
  4. Disbursement functionality
    1. Voucher approval workflow
    2. Disbursement check writing, check clearing workflows & processing
    3. Check/bank reconciliation workflow
  5. Billing functionality
    1. Accounts receivable workflows and processing
    2. Cash receipts workflows and processing
    3. Prototyping several billing processes
    4. Develop APIs for external billing applications
    5. Investigage CRM project integration opportunities
  6. End-user documentation
    1. Functional documentation
    2. Tutorials by functional area
    3. Wiki interface
  7. Other module development
    1. Payroll or payroll integration or both
    2. Equipment maintenance
    3. Asset management
    4. Warehouse management
    5. Dispatch management

As has been previously stated, this project uses Agile Development attitudes and methodologies. We remain flexible and assume that other ideas, technologies, requirements and priorities will be discovered during development -- and we look forward to it.

I haven't and probably won't be putting time estimates on any of this until we have substantially finished number 2, above.

Experience

The GovernERP Project is, as it has to be, ambitious. Project founder John Harding has many years experience in the specific functional areas describe above. Tom McGee developed sophisticated combination billing and payable system when he worked at the California Youth Authority. That doesn't assure success, but experience helps. We are looking for developers, project sponsers and people of good will who can get behind what we are doing and want to help -- we need you.
